Upholding Our Values In Supporting Our Community

Dear Community Members,

EPACS Admin is aware of a video circulating on social media of a contracted after-school sub at EPACS verbally taunting students.  The sub, who was on EPACS’ campus for just 3 days when the video was recorded, was employed by an external contractor and not Aspire or EPACS.  Regardless, this conduct does not reflect our values or expectations as a school community and we are deeply outraged and saddened by it.  Please rest assured that we swiftly followed all protocols, which included the following:

  1. Immediately removing the individual from our school once the incident was reported to leadership.
  2. Reporting her conduct to her employer and ensuring that she is no longer  permitted to work at EPACS or at any other Bay Area Aspire school.
  3. Contacting the families involved and sharing communication with the after-school community.
  4. Holding a restorative circle for students directly impacted the following day, and holding another restorative circle today for families and caregivers.

We remain deeply committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students and staff.

What you can do: If you have information to report about any EPACS staff or substitute, please reach out to us immediately. You can do so by completing a concern form in the front office or reaching out directly to an EPACS Admin.

Please read our Stance on Inclusion and Anti-Racism below which can be found in EPACS Staff Handbook Addendum and EPACS Student Family Handbook Addendum.

At EPACS, we are actively working to be an inclusive and anti-racist school. This means that we celebrate, honor, and uplift the identities and strengths of all EPACS community members.

Discrimination—whether based on race, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, or any other identity marker—has no place in our community. We are committed to upholding the dignity and humanity of every student and staff member. We take all reports of exclusion and racism seriously and encourage you to bring forth any concerns.

EPACS remains deeply committed to the care, education, and protection of all students. Thank you for your partnership in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,
Principal Kawi & EPACS Administration
