Learning and Fun, Outside the Classroom
Our students love our after school programs because they give them a chance to have fun while learning in an open and creative atmosphere. Some of our after school activities focus on building skills in a particular area, while others allow students to explore and learn with hands-on experiments. Whatever the activity, our students can't get enough of the programs.- Hip Hop 360

Hip Hop 360
Every Friday afternoon a group of EPACS students learn the latest hip hop moves from professional hip hop dancers. The students get to show off their moves and perform once per trimester during lunch time.
Girls for a Change
Girls in grades 6th through 8th grade meet twice a week to plan a community service project through a club called Girls for a Change. Focusing on an aspect of a community they would like to change, the girls work on the project throughout the school year. They also attend an annual conference focused on empowering women leaders with other girls throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Alpha Boys Club
The Alpha Boys Club was founded by a group of Stanford students who are part of the Alpha fraternity. They meet with a group of boys from EPACS on Friday afternoons to teach them about technology. Once a quarter, the Alpha Boys Club organizes a field trip to local universities and/or corporations to expose students to the world of possibilities and to get them thinking about their future.
Girls on the Run
Once a week a group of 3rd-5th grade girls meet with volunteers to train for an annual 5K event called the Lollypop Run. During practice they also discuss health related issues such as nutrition and other forms of exercise. The club is sponsored by volunteers who love to run and want to share their passion with the students.
Ballroom Dancing
Julia Minson, an award winning ballroom dancer, was inspired by the movie Mad Hot Ballroom and decided to start an after school program to teach students how to ballroom dance. The students have performed in front of several audiences from school performances to regional ballroom dancing competitions. They have learned everything from the Fox Trot to the Swing and continue to be inspired by Ms. Minson's passion for dancing.
Stanford Ultimate Frisbee
Several of the Stanford Closing the Gap tutors also play on the Ultimate Frisbee team. One day after tutoring they decided to play Ultimate Frisbee with the students and now they practice regularly, play games on the weekend and invite students to local tournaments.
Stanford Closing the Gap Tutoring Program
Closing the Gap is a tutoring/mentoring program designed to support middle school students at East Palo Alto Charter School. Through the program, Stanford students serve as role models and provide academic and personal support for EPACS students.
Stanford Science Bus
The Science Bus is an after-school science curriculum program for students in grades 2 through 8. The program is developed and taught by graduate and undergraduate students at Stanford University. The EPACS students have the opportunity to conduct experiments and learn about science in experiential way.
Nature Mapping with Mr. Ken
We are fortunate to be located near the beautiful bay lands in East Palo Alto and once a week a group of students go out to the Bay front to explore the habitats with Mr. Ken. The students use GPS tracking devices to learn about different animals a species who live in our own backyard.
